* NOTES REGARDING TRY-OUTS:
* Swim Team Try-Outs are NOT an open evaluation for swim lessons. For swim lesson placement, call Aquatics Director Mike Rubinstein at 973-992-7500.
* There is no pre-registration or pre-enrollment for try-outs. There are no fees to try out. Please enter the pool area by 6:45pm ready to swim (suit & goggles). Look for the coaches' clipboards and fill out the Try-Out Enrollment with swimmer name, age, birthdate, EMAIL ADDRESS, and phone number.
* At Try-Outs ages 10/under will perform a warm-up of continuous 200 yards freestyle, followed by a time trial of 50 yards of all four strokes, or as schedule allows. Ages 11/over will perform a warm-up of continuous 300 yards freestyle and 200 IM, followed by a time trial of 50 yards of all four strokes, or as schedule allows.

1. EXCUSED FROM TRY-OUTS

A. Returning swimmers from the 2008-2009 season SHOULD NOT ATTEND WEY TRY-OUTS and should proceed to reserve their spot on the team by paying their Team Deposit by August 8 (details on the Team Deposit are also on this page.) Training group assignments will be posted in the list below by August 6.
B. The following list will also include swimmers accepted to the team from August try-outs. These swimmers may proceed to reserve their spot on the team by paying their Team Deposit (details on the Team Deposit are also on this page.) Training group assignments are indicated in the list below.

2. REQUIRED TO TRY OUT
Swimmers on the following list ARE REQUIRED TO TRY OUT for the WEY '08-'09 Team. Swimmers on this list are NOT YET eligible to reserve their spot on the team for a variety of reasons that may include one or more of these issues:

a) New swimmer to our program or new in the Spring or Summer of 2008.
b) Member of WEY Team in '07-'08 or previous years who needs to be re-evaluated for proper group placement due to aging up or growing.
c) Member of WEY Team in '07-'08 but did not train with us in spring or summer, therefore in need of new evaluation.
d) Member of WEY Team in '07-'08 but did not fulfill team attendance requirements at practices and/or meets.

3. OTHER RESULTS OF AUGUST & SEPTEMBER TRY-OUTS
Swimmers on the following list have tried out for the team in August or September, and their result is posted here beside each name. All are welcome to remain on a waiting list for openings on the swim team.

"TEAM DEPOSIT"
"Team Deposit" of $350 Payable to "WEPO" by August 8, 2008.
With our team size maintained at 95 to 100 swimmers, and with daily inquiries from new applicants, it is recommended that eligible swimmers RESERVE their spot on the team by paying a “TEAM DEPOSIT” by the deadline of August 8, 2007 (before decisions from 1st try-outs are final).
The amount of the “TEAM DEPOSIT” is $350, which will be allocated to the following required expenses:

1) USA Swimming Registration Fee ... $50
2) Starting Balance for Meet Entry Fees (“Declining Balance Account”) ... $100
3) Activities Fee/Booster Fee ... $60
4) Speedo Team Racing Suit & Speedo Team Warm-Up Suit (long sleeve jacket + long pants to be worn at meets over racing suit when you're not swimming) ... $140

Refunds of the “TEAM DEPOSIT” will be permitted up to September 20, 2008. The “TEAM DEPOSIT” is not refundable after September 20, 2008. “TEAM DEPOSIT” is payable by check to “West Essex Parents Organization” and must be delivered to the Mail File of Treasurer Nancy Verniero in a sealed envelope with the swimmer’s first and last name written clearly on the envelope. Additional details on the abovementioned fees and how they are used is available in our Team Guide, Constitution, and By-Laws (click on Parents' Page to see these important docuements).

Team Fees in addition to the abovementioned Deposit include YMCA Facility Membership and Swim Team Program Fees. YMCA Membership must maintain swimmer full privilege membership from September through April. Swim Team Program Fees are detailed in full in the document linked here.

Ultimate Swim Shop's Equipment Sale & Suit Fitting is scheduled TBA
Swimmers who need new equipment or replacement equipment such as training suits, drag shorts, hand paddles, Zoomers fins, custom WEY caps, goggles, sandles, and buoys must attend this sale at the Y. See more info on equipment required on our Program Fees page.
