Team Info
The West Essex YMCA Competitive Swim Program is a swim team and so much more… In addition to training swimmers to perform their best and to achieve goals in competition, we also host parties and outings, and organize charity fundraisers. Our team, consisting of swimmers, families, and coaches, all coordinate to make swimming the bond that brings us together for a season of great experiences!

● WEY swim team members include ages 6 through 18. Athletes of college age may apply to train with our fall-winter Short Course program, but may not compete for the YMCA except in occasional "open age" categories in USA Swimming meets (these are more frequent in summer).
● WEY competes in the Northern New Jersey YMCA Swim League and the New Jersey Local Swimming Committee of USA Swimming.
● WEY coaches offer excellent skill instruction, speed and endurance training, structure and discipline, and plenty of nurturing and encouragement. Our Head Swim Team Coach is supported by coaches Eileen Larney, Julianne Thompson, Jay Xu, Matt Mullaney, Kelly Peck, Georges Carraha, and Olympio Ndahiriwe.

* WEY NOTES REGARDING HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMERS 2007-2008 Season
Swimming for one’s high school and also for WEY can be a great combination.
High School teams have an attendance requirement, as does WEY Swim Team.
It is important that each athlete fulfill the commitment they have made to both programs.
REMEMBER THAT COLLEGES ADMIRE COMMITMENT TO A YMCA TEAM
& your college application should include details of your West Essex YMCA Swim Team experience,
PLUS you would be very smart to get a college letter of recommendation from Coach Karin.
At WEY, daily attendance logs will be kept for our HS swimmers (see requirements for each training group above).
Those who do not comply with attendance requirements will face a demotion in training group
plus the First through Fourth Action process outlined in “Behavior & Conduct” in our Team Guide.
NOTES ON COACHES' DISCRETION
The above Training Group descriptions will be adhered to in most cases, as pertains to age and race time achievement. Coaches maintain the right to always use their best judgment in training group assignments, even in cases where a swimmer is placed into an age category that does not match the above and/or a race time achievement category that does not match the above. Please defer to coaches' discretion, experience, and foresight in these choices.
